Protecting Children's Privacy Online
The Children's Online Protection Act (COPPA) was passed by Congress in October 1998, with a requirement that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issue and enforce rules concerning children's online privacy. The primary goal of the Act and the Rule is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their children online. In order for FFCU to remain in compliance with Federal Law, any minor account, who's primary owner is under the age of 13, that wishes to be connected to our Netbranch system for online banking must first obtain the signature of their parent or legal guardian.
Please note, if the adult who has signed as a joint owner on a youth account is NOT the parent or legal guardian of the youth in question, they will have to obtain written permission from the parent or legal guardian of the minor. In the event that the adult on the account is saving for the minor without wanting the parents or legal guardians to know, online access to the account will not be allowed until the minor has turned 13 years old.
